Is Bigger Better?-Advantages and Disadvantages of Large Size Steel Door Designs For Modern Homes.

Since the inception of Euro Door in Kenya in 2017 I have observed quite a varied length and width for the main entrance steel doors.  While almost 90% of the clients use the standard 1200mm Wide by 2300mm or 2400mmHigh for the main door, there have been few outliers whose door sizes have exceeded 2000mm Wide therefore the need for a large size steel door designs

Part of the 90% who adopt the standard size for the main door usually allocate larger widths than this mostly 1800mmWide but later reduce the size due to lack of this size of door in their design of choice or because the price is beyond their budget.

I have always wondered how customers arrive at the door size, especially for the main door.  Over the years  I have realized that at the start of construction, the architect or the contractor is in charge of the decision in communication with the home owner  but towards the end as the house nears completion, the owner takes more control.

I sought the opinion of one architect on a phone call and came up with the following points:

Main Advantages of Over-sized Front Steel Doors

• A statement of luxury and stature.  This depicts entry to palaces or presidential state houses that are adorned with very large doors.  According to Fixr,a 2025 industry report indicates that 60% of professionals identify tall doors as the leading front door trend, underscoring their increasing demand among homeowners seeking to make a statement with their home's entryway
• Better accessibility-allows for easy passage of large, wide furniture into the home

Disadvantages of Over-sized Front Doors

• The availability of ready-made doors over 1800 mm wide is difficult unless customized. Many customers are forced to adjust the door to a small standard size readily available.
• The bigger the door, the more expensive it becomes especially if other features such as natural wood, smart locking, and plenty of glass are added.
• Due to the massive weight of the door special heavy-duty hinges must be used to avoid structural defects in the future.
